A 1.5 Mtpa project in Karnataka provides a useful case for reading supply boundaries.

The announced project

Metso announced on 19 November 2025 a contract for a traveling-grate pellet plant for Kuminex Steels in Hospet, Karnataka, India. The release stated a capacity of 1.5 Mtpa and expected production to begin in mid-2027. That timing is the expectation in the original announcement; this briefing does not verify subsequent progress.

The stated scope

The supplier described engineering and design, proprietary equipment, instrumentation and control systems, supervisory services and technical training. The announced order value was EUR 11 million. A supplier order value should not be treated as the total installed cost of the project.

What to follow next

A project record should track later updates on construction, utilities, commissioning and first production. Separate the announced process-equipment scope from the owner’s complete investment. This helps EPC and procurement readers compare projects without confusing a technology package with a turnkey plant.
