Project interface review.
A practical owner–EPC–supplier worksheet covering design basis, equipment boundaries, controls and acceptance.
This worksheet turns a design meeting into a record of decisions. For each item, capture the evidence, the responsible party and the next action. A blank field is an unresolved interface; it is not an agreed exclusion.
01 / Feed and product design basis
Concentrate source and blend
Record mineralogy, dry-solids rate, wet-basis moisture, particle-size distribution and the variability envelope. Identify the sample campaign and what remains assumed.
Evidence / document revision: ____________________
Owner / due date: ____________________
Decision or open action: ____________________
Product destination
Identify the intended blast-furnace or DR application and receiving plant. Attach the agreed chemical, physical and metallurgical test schedule rather than a generic product label.
Evidence / document revision: ____________________
Owner / due date: ____________________
Decision or open action: ____________________
Design and operating cases
Separate normal, turndown, peak and upset cases. Specify duration of peak duty, annual operating hours and the boundary at which capacity is guaranteed.
Evidence / document revision: ____________________
Owner / due date: ____________________
Decision or open action: ____________________
02 / Material and mechanical interfaces
Screening and recycle
Draw each accept/reject stream and its return destination. State whether the equipment rate includes recycle. Record sample points and the responsibility for returned water and binder.
Evidence / document revision: ____________________
Owner / due date: ____________________
Decision or open action: ____________________
Transfers and distribution
Fix discharge elevations, belt directions, chute envelopes, impact protection and access for cleaning. Review whether pellet damage can occur after the final screening point.
Evidence / document revision: ____________________
Owner / due date: ____________________
Decision or open action: ____________________
Loads and utilities
Issue foundation loads and load cases, power demand, cooling or service-water requirements, compressed air and hydraulic interfaces with a named drawing revision.
Evidence / document revision: ____________________
Owner / due date: ____________________
Decision or open action: ____________________
03 / Controls and protection
Sequence and permissives
Define upstream/downstream interlocks, start and stop order, local/remote control authority and response to loss of a downstream machine. Review the actual sequence with operations.
Evidence / document revision: ____________________
Owner / due date: ____________________
Decision or open action: ____________________
Signals and ownership
Assign an owner for each signal, sensor, cable and termination. Agree how trip, alarm and diagnostic states appear in the plant control system.
Evidence / document revision: ____________________
Owner / due date: ____________________
Decision or open action: ____________________
Safe maintenance
Review isolation boundaries, stored hydraulic or mechanical energy, lifting points and removal paths. Use the site-approved risk assessment and isolation procedure for actual work.
Evidence / document revision: ____________________
Owner / due date: ____________________
Decision or open action: ____________________
04 / Acceptance and handover
Performance trial
Specify feed envelope, sampling plan, instruments, calibration, run duration and interruptions that invalidate a test. Agree what is measured at the supplier boundary versus the whole-plant boundary.
Evidence / document revision: ____________________
Owner / due date: ____________________
Decision or open action: ____________________
Mechanical readiness
Track alignment, lubrication, guards, rotation checks and functional tests against approved procedures. Close safety-critical items before energisation or material trials.
Evidence / document revision: ____________________
Owner / due date: ____________________
Decision or open action: ____________________
Handover dossier
Include as-built drawings, manuals, settings backups, spare-parts lists, training records and open punch-list owners. Record warranty conditions and the event that starts the warranty period.
Evidence / document revision: ____________________
Owner / due date: ____________________
Decision or open action: ____________________
Example: a screening capacity mismatch
An EPC specification quotes 200 t/h fresh dry feed. The screening package is also quoted at 200 t/h, but its inlet receives fresh material plus recycle. If the illustrative steady-state recycle is 50 t/h on the same dry-solids basis, the screen must handle 250 t/h, before considering the agreed transient or peak cases. The action is to reconcile the flowsheet and equipment duty; an arbitrary safety factor does not repair an undefined boundary.
Close the meeting with a decision log
Classify each item as agreed, awaiting evidence or requiring change. For a proposed change, identify affected drawings, cost, schedule and acceptance criteria. A verbal agreement becomes useful project evidence only when the approved revision and responsible organisations are recorded.
